The structure, shaped like a double bass, will be made of steel or concrete. There will be 3 sets of 4 steel core strings on each side, which will go through the roof of the structure, passing through a sound amplification box (below roof). On the roof of the structure, the strings will loop around a pulley and peg system to be regularly tuned, much like a double bass. The groups of strings will be tuned to the notes of the II-V-I progression, one of the most common chord progressions in jazz: a Minor chord, followed by a Dominant 7 chord, resolving with a Major chord. A person waiting for the bus may walk through and pluck these strings, perhaps alone or simultaneously with others, creating a complete chord or a cacophony of sound. The structure could be in New Orleans, where musicians waiting for the bus, or even Second Line parades, could play their instruments while interacting with the space.
