For this project I designed an ideal storefront window for my ceramics collection.
These porcelain vessels are inspired in part by ancient Mesopotamian forms, Egyptian amulets and tombs.
I wanted to contrast the smooth and refined edges of the ceramics with a naturaly rough surface reminiscent of both vernacular rock-cut architecture and the raw material with which the wheel-thrown pieces are made.
The pots are embedded in the rock surface, almost as man placed in a tomb, or as if the rock itself had been naturally worn by wind and water to house each form. The addition of warm light inside of each alcove, as an object might be lit in a museum setting, would further serve to individually valorize each piece.
